Usage questions
How many and which products does PocketShopper recognise?
So far PocketShopper is just available in Germany and recognises only national products. The German data base contains products of discounters, drug stores as well as books and CDs. Furthermore, you have got the possibility to add your own information about a product via keypad or voice record function, if a product is not recognised automatically by the software.
How often will the data base be updated?
We offer free updates approximately every six months. Installation can be conducted on our website our on your mobile phone, which may cause charges of your provider, because data will be transferred. Depending on the size of the data base up to 100 MB will be transferred.
I’m blind. How can I find the barcode on the product package?
PocketShopper uses a high-quality scanner, which recognises barcodes very quickly – even out of a greater distance and if the scanner is tilted in relation to the product. So, also blind user can identify products by scanning the package swiftly from a distance of about 20 cm on every side with the barcode scanner.
Is a data connection needed for PocketShopper?
No, the product data base of PocketShopper is installed locally on the memory card of the mobile phone, so that no data connection is necessary during usage. The data base update can be done using the PC, so that also here no mobile internet connection is required.
Which information is read out about the product?
This depends on the kind of article. On goods from supermarkets or drug stores the product name, manufacturer/brand and weight respectively volume is read out; on books the author, book title and blurb, and on CDs interpreter and title. No prices are read out or displayed.
Which accessories are supplied with PocketShopper?
Purchasing a PocketShopper you get a handy barcode scanner and the software for your mobile phone. Additionally 100 barcode stickers are included in delivery, which you can assign to products. Our partners can provide you furthermore with the necessary screen reading software („screen reader“) and if needed with more information for buying an appropriate mobile phone.
Which mobile phones are supported?
Tastes and preferences differ – therefore you should be able to choose the type of mobile phone you are most familiar with. PocketShopper supports many current mobile phones with the Symbian S60 3rd Edition operating system. The software is continuously enhanced to support further models, so that you can choose always between various mobile phones. On our website you will get further information about some supported phone models, we tested. If you already have a 3rd Edition-model, which is not yet listed in our table, just contact us. Probably it works anyhow.
Do I need a screen reading software like TALKS or MobileSpeak for using PocketShopper?
Yes, PocketShopper uses the screen reader programs TALKS or MobileSpeak for reading out the screen of the mobile phone. With the aid of these screen reading programs you can also use further functions of your phone, like reading out SMS. Our partners will provide you with further information about both screen readers.
Can I transfer PocketShopper when buying a new phone?
Yes, you can! Your licence transfer on a new phone is easy and for free.
